Issue Position: LGBTQ Justice

Issue Position

I grew up in rural Whatcom county, an area that voted strongly against marriage equality. It was a difficult decision to come out to my community in high school, but it was an empowering experience to do so with the support of my family. It was a crucial time in my own development, and helping other LGBTQ youth find the courage to come out as well permanently framed my belief that we are at our strongest when we stand together. I have felt the sting of discrimination at times in my life, and I am proud to stand against discrimination in any form -- from the workplace to schools to access to public restrooms. As a Member of Congress, I will stand up for LGBTQ equality in our community and in every corner of our country.
